One of my attempts at keeping tasks under control: a personal app for juggling several parallel work lines. The main object is a Focus Line and the main number is the time since you last consciously checked it: fresh under an hour, then aging, stale, and danger past six. Everything sits in IndexedDB with no server and no account; an MVP of about 3,400 lines, built in one day from a written spec and untouched since.

Detail

It separates touched from checked: a task started at 11:30 touches the line, but the line counts as checked only when you actually looked at its result at 13:20.
